Working with ArcGIS Desktop

The ArcGIS Desktop Resource Center houses the following developer resources that previously existed here on EDN.

• Write custom buttons, toolbars, windows, and extensions that plug-in to ArcMap, ArcGlobe, or ArcScene; or customize the geodatabase by building your own class extension or plug-in data source using
  • .NET (C# or VB.Net),
  • Visual Basic 6, or
  • Visual C++.
• Personalize and streamline your ArcGIS Desktop experience by using the Customize dialog to create a new toolbar containing the tools you use most often; write macros that automate tasks; or create sophisticated commands, tools, and menus using Visual Basic for Applications.

Working with ArcGIS Engine

If you are building custom, lightweight, desktop applications that utilize ArcGIS Engine Runtime, then the ArcGIS Engine Resource Center houses developer resources that previously existed here on EDN. By development language, these are:

• .NET (C# or VB.Net)
• Java
• Cross-platform C++
• Visual Basic 6
• Visual C++

Working with ArcGIS Server

The ArcGIS Server Resource Center houses the following developer resources that previously existed here on EDN.

• Build web applications or mashups using JavaScript libraries hosted by ESRI or, for more advanced funtionality, using the ArcGIS Web Application Developer Framework (ADF) for .NET or Java.
• Leverage the mapping, spatial analysis, and data management services of ArcGIS Server using the ArcObjects API, the SOAP API, or the REST API.
• Use server-side geospatial Enterprise JavaBeans (EJBs) within your J2EE applications.
