As the name implies, a GroupElement object contains a set of elements that have been grouped together. For instance, when working with a map layout it is common to group multiple elements (such as a data frame and the associated legend) together to facilitate the movement of these entities as a single element.
GroupElements can either be created, or they can be retrieved from an IGraphicsContainer. For instance, IGraphicsContainer::Next will return an IElement. The developer can then check to see if the IElement also implements IGroupElement. If it does, then IGroupElement can then be used to extract the individual elements. Once obtained, GroupElements can be updated directly through the IGroupElement interface, or indirectly through the IGraphicsContainer interface.
