ESRI Developer Network  With the release of ArcGIS 9.1, the recently unveiled ESRI Developer Network website becomes the new home for all your GIS development needs.
 

ArcObjectsOnline and ArcGISDeveloperOnline, will both continue to be available as archives of 8.3 and 9.0 content respectively; however, they will no longer be updated on a regular basis.

ArcObjects Controls

The ToolBarControl and TOCControl (Table of Contents) Alpha testing period ended on December 1st, 2003. Thanks for your feedback and testing, the ToolbarControl and TOCControl have been released as part of ArcGIS Engine 9.0.

ArcGIS Engine, a new developer product for building and deploying custom desktop applications, also provides access to the following additional developer controls:

  • MapControl
  • PageLayoutControl
  • ReaderControl
  • SceneControl
  • GlobeControl

The developer controls are available as ActiveX controls, .NET Windows Controls, and visual JavaBeans.

Technical Docs

Draft chapters of Extending ArcObjects
'Extending ArcObjects', builds on the knowledge gained in 'Exploring ArcObjects', and explains some of the more advanced customizations possible with ArcObjects. The draft chapters included here are based on ArcGIS 8.3. However, the 'Extending ArcObjects' project was completed based on ArcGIS 9 and its full contents are now available as part of ArcGISDeveloperOnline, the 9.x site.

Creating a Customized Raster Format DLL
Raster support in ArcGIS is built on an open structure based upon the DLL technology. With this open structure, you can add your own format support into ArcGIS by creating a customized DLL and plugging it into ArcGIS.

Samples (Over 30 new samples have been added to the help system since ArcGIS 8.3 was released. Use the Query Samples page to quickly find new samples.)

Visual Basic Addins
The ESRI add-ins automate some of the tasks performed by the software engineer when developing with ArcObjects, as well as provide tools that make debugging code easier.

Fix Registry
Component Category missing? The FixRegistry utility (FixRegistry.exe) fixes corruption of the Component Categories section of the registry.
